Learning his chops at an early age of five Chester Lee beat on wash pots and old foot stools to a young Tony Joe White playing the blues down in Louisiana. He got the “Mojo” bad from listening to his uncle Tony lay it down hard.
As a teenager in Newnan, Georgia there was quite a bit of talent coming out of Newnan High School in those days with the likes of Alan Jackson, Doug Stone and Chester Lee. Alan and Doug could really sing the country, but Chester’s voice was
different and rooted in the Delta Blues sound. Even so, he and country artist Doug Stone formed several bands together and played around Atlanta for years.
In 1984 Chester decided to move to Nashville, Tennessee in hopes of obtaining a writers deal. He landed a job working for country great Randy Travis,
where he learned the music business and fine tuned his writing skills.
In 1997 he wrote the top ten hit “Born in the Dark” recorded by Doug Stone, winning two BMI Airplay Awards. Chester also co-wrote “Down on my Knees” and “Poor Man’s Blvd” with Doug. He continued to have success writing and playing the blues locally in Nashville. He opened for “The Fabulous Thunderbirds”.
At some point Chester Lee branched out into the production aspect of music. He produced five albums with legend “Jerry Reed”, co-writing two songs with Jerry;
“Dodgin Hot Lead Bullets” and “ Your Love is Burning Me Down.
Chester co-produced two “Tony Joe White” albums and co-wrote “Ole Black Crow” and “All Those Tomorrows”.
Chester Lee also produced Doug Stone’s album “The Long Way” for Audium Records.
Chester Lee has many talents, but his heart has always remained with the Delta Blues. He has finally put his guitar and writing skills to work on his own original album. Writing, producing, playing and singing on his new ten song release “Crow”.
Chester Lee truly is “The Complete Package”
